About Dr. Buterbaugh
Dr. Buterbaugh is the President of the Hand & Shoulder Center and the Executive Director of the Western PA Surgery Center Wexford and Beaver County Branch. A Pittsburgh native, he received his Medical Degree at the University of Pittsburgh in 1979 and proceeded on to Syracuse, New York, where he completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1984. He was Fellowship-trained in Hand, Shoulder, and Microvascular Surgery at Harvard Medical School in 1985.
Dr. Buterbaugh has been in private practice since 1985 and is on the medical staff at UPMC Passavant/Cranberry, UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, UPMC St. Margaret, Allegheny General Hospital, and AHN Wexford. His current academic appointment is Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with a Certificate of added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand.
His various professional commitments include Chairman, Orthopaedic Product Standardization Committee, Allegheny General Hospital 1994-1995; member of the Orthopaedic Review Journal Editorial Board from 1991-1995; and Chief of Orthopaedics at UPMC Passavant from 1996-1998. He also serves as the Hand Consultant for the Pittsburgh Steelers and has previously served as a consultant for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Dr. Buterbaugh has served as a member of the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board, CCAC Advisory Board. He also served as Chairman of the Board at Sewickley Academy from 2005-2012 and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at North Catholic High School from 2015 -2021. He was elected to the North Catholic Hall of Fame in 2019.
